When to plant: Texas Tough is a warm season forage grass, utilized for grazing or haying. Plant Texas Tough during spring and summer, when soil temperatures are consistently above 65 degrees F. The optimal soil temperature for germination and root growth of Bermudagrass is 75 to 80 degrees F.

Site Selection: Plant Texas Tough in full sun and well-drained soil in Texas and across the southern states where Bermudagrass is currently grown. Proper drainage is essential for successful establishment and the development of mature, healthy forage.

Seedbed Preparation: Loosen soil to a depth of six inches by discing. Level area to proper grade with approximately 1/2 in. pulverized soil at the surface. Prior to seeding, a soil test is recommended. Results of this test will determine fertilizer and other amendments needed. Add lime as needed to establish a minimum 6.0 soil pH.

Seeding rate for new pasture and overseeding applications: Plant 10 lbs. of Texas Tough per acre for new pasture applications. More seed may be needed when stands are established early or late in the season to ensure full coverage.

Texas Tough may be overseeded into your existing stand of Bermudagrass, such as Coastal, to improve its overall forage quality or to repair damaged areas of seeded Bermudagrass and vegetative Bermudagrass varieties. The suggested renovation-seeding rate is 5 lbs. per acre. For bare areas, use the new pasture application-seeding rate. If the turf is in very poor condition, or the damaged areas very large, total removal of the existing grasses before seeding Texas Tough is recommended, for maximum stand uniformity and overall forage performance.

When overseeding into an existing pasture, care must be taken to ensure adequate seed to soil contact. Herbicides with no soil action may be applied to eliminate any undesirable grasses before seeding. Follow label instructions for usage, and observe the required waiting period, if any, before seeding. Pastures can be aerated or disked to remove accumulated thatch areas during germination and the early establishment phase prior to first grazing or haying.

Planting: Care must be taken not to cover the seed with too much soil—no more than 1/4 in. of soil covering the seed is recommended. Effective methods include broadcasting by hand or using seed spreaders, followed by light roller or dragging. Because of the high seed count of Texas Tough per lb., the seed should be mixed thoroughly with dry sand at a ratio of 5 parts sand to one part seed, and the spreader opened only 1/16 to 1/8 in.

Soil moisture around the seed is necessary for about 1 to 2 weeks. The seedbed should be kept moist during germination. Once established, less frequent, deep moisture encourages deep root growth.

Germination: Texas Tough has very good seeding vigor. Under ideal conditions, germination begins within 7 to 10 days. Again, soil moisture is very important during the germination period. Allow 14 to 28 days after the first seedlings emerge for complete germination, fertilize per soil test once the seed has germinated.
Under ideal conditions, full coverage is attained 4 to 6 weeks after seeding and normal moisture. If planting is early or late in the season, more time may be needed for establishment.

The pasture is ready for the first cutting or grazing approximately 8 to 10 weeks after seeding, or when the grass has grown 14 to 18 inches tall. Minimum recommended mowing height is 4 in. After the first cutting for hay, mow every 28 days and add fertilizer each time.

Winter Overseeding: Winter overseeding of dormant Bermudagrass may be done for year-round pasture. It is not generally recommended on immature pasture (less than 6 to 8 months of age). Late season plantings and newly established Bermudagrass may be damaged by allowing Ryegrass to get too tall, leaving it unable to compete with the Ryegrass species during the spring transition.

Tried + tested on Caribbean vacation
Size: 6 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
First let me start by saying I have an inflammatory condition so I needed a sunscreen that didn’t contribute to making my symptoms worse like many of the other sunscreens with harsh chemicals. This sunscreen is phenomenal! We just got back from a week in the Caribbean sun in Antigua/Barbuda, and I did not burn once! But there are some key things you must know before buying so that you can apply it properly and get the best protection. First, you must shake the can for about 20 seconds before each use. This way it mixes the sunscreen and applies it correctly. If you spray it and it comes out clear you have not shaken it up enough. It should spray solid white. Second, rub it in quickly after you spray it because it dries fast. Note that this does leave a white cast, but it’s not as bad as everyone says. I have light olive skin (half Hispanic, half white) and I tan easily but I also burn easily. When I applied it, it went on white but I just took the time and rub it in really well. The white cast will fade a little once it dries but it will also sit on top of the skin which is helpful to know when you need to re-apply. I applied in the morning about 20 min before getting in the sun. *Apply before putting on your swim suit! If it gets on your swimwear, it will leave white marks*. The sunscreen stayed on through pool and ocean use without rubbing off. I only needed to reapply on the tops of my shoulders once in the afternoon. Also, this is not to say that you won’t burn. While I was in the intense sun, I also spent time in the shade throughout the day just to make sure I was giving my skin breaks from the heat. But for being in the sun like I was, I am VERY impressed with this sunscreen. And for it only being spf 30, it protected me better than expected in the harsh Caribbean sun. I usually come home from vacations with a little burn but absolutely none this time! Just be sure to take time to apply it correctly and you should be good! I’d rather have a slight, minimal white cast than be burnt and miserable. It’s worth it! I’ll be using this stuff from now on.

I am super white and have great skin which is super surprising ...
I just started using this product and I wanted to write because I thought some of the reviews were mixed when I read them. I used to use Zinka's spray but they changed their formula and now it is a greasy mess, that never dries do not buy that, I wrote the company and they do not care. First and foremost this bottle is heavy so I am not sure if the shaker ball is heavy or what but a 6oz bottle should not be this heavy so that might be a marketing ploy, hope I don't run out and just have a shaker ball. I am super white and have great skin which is super surprising as my childcare was being dumped off at the local pool in TX without sunscreen during the summers, but I attribute that to using a zinc based sunscreen for the past 10-15 years. I use this everyday, rain or shine as I live in TX and it never rains long and winter here has sunshine too. I use it on my face, hands and decolletage. Yes, my face, under my make up or not. Here are the issues, this makes a super white paste that does not fade into the skin if you go too heavy. So you have to rub it in and even then there is a whiteness, and I am already a white gal. I too am longing for a day of clear zinc sunscreen. But none on the market I have found that are not an oily mess that cause breakouts. I like the dry texture of this spray, and if I spray a thin layer I do not need to rub, so that is perfect for me on my face as most make up I put over it has spf protection anyways, so no problem there, and this stuff stays on 12 hours or more. I think the cost is high, I used to pay around $10 a bottle for zinka but it was not as heavy as this so I will see how long this lasts. But so far except for the cost and the having to rub it in I really like this product.

My favorite sunscreen
Size: 6 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I love this sunscreen and have been carrying a can in my bag all this summer. To address a couple of common complaints: “It’s not sheer at all”: “Sheer” does not mean the same thing as “clear,” people. This spray is white and absolutely does rub in to be sheer as advertised. It leaves a slight (“sheer”) white tinge after rubbing in, but it’s not super noticeable on my pale skin. It might be more problematic on darker skin tones. (Also, it should be noted that there is literally no such thing as clear mineral sunscreen- you will have to choose between a product like this and a clear one containing endocrine disruptors. I’d rather look a little pasty, personally.) “My whole family used this and got burned”: You need to shake the can before spraying, as per the instructions. These sprays are made of zinc (the active, protective ingredient) in a liquid suspension. If you spray without shaking the can first, you risk getting all liquid and no zinc particles, and then yes, you will burn. I’m pretty sensitive and this sunscreen has not failed me yet. “It’s hard to get off”: This is true. It is hard to get off. But why would you want a sunscreen to come off easily?? This stuff is water resistant to an impressive degree. In the evening if it takes a vigorous scrubbing to get it off, I consider the exfoliation a bonus. Also, my nozzles have worked just fine and the cans last me quite a good amount of time.

It really is water resistant
Size: 6 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
This stuff is great. Normally when buying a green sunscreen, I have to sacrifice the aerosol feature and default to a lotion. This has a very neutral scent and sprays easily and evenly. It is zinc-based, so it will leave a white haze on your skin. I did need to rub it in after spraying, which helped minimize the white hue. It does love bathing suits, so be prepared to also rub the zinc powder into your bathing suit, otherwise it will be spray painted white. I used this while tubing and did not get burned--just nice and toasty-tan. The biggest downside is that it has a very slight stickiness/tackiness to it. I showered twice before I finally felt like it was all off my skin. But at least it didn't come off in the river!
